UNDER PRIVILEGED

Even with all the laws and rights that the government has provided for the underprivileged women & children, their plight still seems to remain the same. The government along with numerous NGOs is working hard to improve their standard of living. But in spite of all their best efforts, about 88 million people among 1.2 billion Indians still seem to live below the poverty line, struggling to survive.

Underprivileged children not just suffer in the present but also face the consequences later in their future. Apart from the lack of materialistic things and basic amenities, they also have no exposure to education. An NGO must focus on changing the lives of these people at a much deeper level which is exactly what United Samaritans India is striving hard to achieve.

USI continues to serve with the vision of not just providing basic amenities but also introducing the underprivileged to basic life skills hoping that it will eventually lead them into a life of independence. A major portion of our modus operandi involves connecting with them at an emotional level. Resolving the mental traumas of the underprivileged has also been our major area of focus. Focusing on offering them a sustainable change instead of satisfying their needs temporarily is what differentiates United Samaritans India from its fellow NGOs.

WOMEN

Unfortunately, India comes from a long line of patriarchal norms that have always wanted to oppress women. Even in this day and age, it is disheartening to see women having to fight for everything. This makes it obvious why India still manages to top the charts for female infanticides.

Even with women empowerment becoming one of the hottest topics of discussion, it still doesn’t seem to be liberating women at an emotional level. There has never been a better time to not just fight but also to work towards creating a socio-economic balance and freeing women from inequality.

One in every three women in India experiences some form of physical or emotional abuse which leaves them with an emotional scar and continues to haunt them throughout their future. Apart from helping underprivileged women navigate into the workforce, United Samaritans India also wants them to receive enough psychological attention.

USI is working hard to change the idea that women can only fit into traditional roles inside the walls of a household and is helping them expand their boundaries which eventually allows them to stay financially and emotionally independent. USI will never back down from helping women realize their true potential and the positive impact that a female workforce could have on society.

United Samaritans India has also been offering free health care and psychological consultations for HIV positive women and funding camps that offer accommodation and other basic necessities for similar underprivileged patients.

CHILDREN

For a country that contributes to over one-sixth of the world’s population, it is not surprising to find that over 40% of India’s overall strength comes from children who are less than 18 years of age. But in reality, not every kid receives an equal chance at life nor gets moulded into a highly competitive youth.

Children who live in slums and rural outskirts barely have any access to education and some cannot even afford 2 healthy meals per day. Considering this, United Samaritans India is focusing on adopting children from entire slums to offer this free education and any basic necessity which they may need. As a matter of fact, a huge proportion of children die on a daily basis from malnutrition and dehydration in India. Despite the best efforts of the Indian government, the harsh reality of rural & poor children remains widely unseen. Treating paediatric cancer-struck children and offering them a ray of hope is also an important agenda of ours.

United Samaritans India realizes the impact that good education can have on these kids’ life. We also believe in offering them kindness, compassion and proper guidance to ensure that they grow into responsible adults. We are trying our best to discover unprivileged children and helping them discover their true potential. Every kid has an individuality that has to be noticed and encouraged at an early age which is exactly what United Samaritans children mentorship programs offer.

EDUCATION

Unlike what most people may think, the progress of a country is not to be measured by the amount of wealth it has. Instead, education and the number of graduates are the only indicators of progress and overall intellectual development of a nation. Despite all the technological advancements that our country has seen over the years, about one-third of our total population has never had any form of schooling.

With poverty, having to choose between education and food has always been a tough choice to make. Poor families still prefer sending their kids to seek a job instead of educating them. Some simply cannot proceed after a point and decide to drop out. Unequal distribution of public funds is a major reason why kids around the nation do not get an equal chance in education.

Apart from our independent initiatives, United Samaritans India also strives hard to regulate the resources that the government allocates. Over the years, we have helped a huge number of kids realize their purpose on earth through education. USI is adopting children from entire slums and offering them free education. We can provide a guarantee that every single penny and every single minute of their time that our donors provide us are put to good use. We strongly believe that donations don’t always have to be financial which is exactly why USI welcomes donors who can teach our kids and offer them basic education.

HEALTH CARE

There’s no denying the fact that healthcare facilities in our nation are so well-developed and the number of incurable diseases is narrowing down with every passing day. Despite all that good news, 27% of all the deaths that occur in India are still due to the lack of timely medical attention. Every citizen in India needs to have equal rights to proper health care but in reality, only the wealthy enjoy the benefits while the poor die trying.

Not having enough awareness is another alarming contributor to our mortality rate. Most rural areas still don’t believe in vaccination. Severe malnutrition, lack of sanitation, unclean drinking water is stripping life out of people even without them knowing and when we intervene, it is often too late. Instead of offering temporary solutions to the poor & underprivileged, United Samaritans India believes in changing their quality of life permanently.

We have been working hard to make primary healthcare affordable and easily accessible to everyone. We motivate our community to indulge in frequent health checkups and practise better habits through frequent awareness camps. Our medicine distribution centres & camps have helped a countless number of people to live to fight another day.

ANIMAL CARE

Wise men understand that suffering is not just for humans. The animals that we see on our everyday lives go through so much physical and mental agony that would easily make a human being succumb. The government is finding it hard to keep a count on the number of animals that lose their lives on highways every single day.

On a daily basis, animals go through cruelty, physical abuse and medical abnormalities. Some are abandoned while some are killed brutally. One of the major missions that United Samaritans India has is to always keep its doors open to these poor souls who have lost all hope in life. USI believes in the effects of birth control in reducing human-animal conflicts and animal-animal conflicts.

Our facilities conduct periodic animal birth control surgeries and take good care of them until they get back on their feet. A huge population of domestic animals including cows, dogs & cats are being abandoned on a daily basis. United Samaritans India has helped a lot of these poor souls find a good home. We give up our animals only after having a house visit to make sure they are treated well. United Samaritans India is also focusing on developing a mobile-on-call based animal rescue system which has its own set of doctors, helpers and rescue vehicles. This system will be ready to respond and deploy upon civilian calls about animal injury to provide immediate medical assistance.

MENTAL HEALTH

Do you know that suicides contribute to about 1.4% of the overall mortality rate? Suicides are often a manifestation of some form of clinical depression which would have easily been cured with counselling. But not everyone’s lucky enough to find help in time. People are so addicted to the idea of being physically fit that completely they overlook their mental health.

But depression or poor mental health does not always lead to suicides. Most people end up losing all their hopes in life. They eventually start losing their jobs, relationship, money & health. Abuse, harassment & ill-treatment are the most common causes of having poor mental health and women are most often the victims.

United Samaritans India hopes to reassure them that they are not alone and teaches them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We believe in bringing people together as a community to share their feelings mutually which has proven to be an effective way to relieve themselves from stress and anxiety. Our volunteers are helping us spread the good news that no matter what’s happened, the world hasn’t ended yet and there will always be a way to start again and succeed.
